About Dawn Harverson

Dawn Harverson was born in  London 1957 and was a foundling, so her origins are shrouded in mystery.

She has always been based in London. Her home environment is very important to her and is where she gains much of her inspiration for her paintings. Harverson renovated her house in the early 80s and has recorded her life there over the years using various formats including drawing, painting, and printmaking.

Harverson worked as a stylist/art director during the 1990s and was able to use her artistic skills in the various demands of this role.

Now her focus is on painting, which is still inspired by her home and garden. Harverson uses what are regarded as traditional methods and mediums: in the past these have been watercolour and etching, but now Dawn enjoys working with oil on canvas.

Her painting titled 'The Crew' depicts her animals and captures their characters alongside Harverson's love of colour and patterns. These themes run throughout her work.

Her interest in portraiture is driven by her seeking to visualise the elusive identities of her sitters. Rather than simply painting a subject as photorealistically as possible - which Harverson views as uninformative and uninspiring - she endeavours to capture a sense of the inner self.

Harverson had a solo show at Oxo Tower, South Bank, London 1999. She has been represented by Eric Frank and Roman Black and shown work at The London Art Fair, Babington House, Deptford X, First Wave, and Preserve Your Instinct at Harajuku, Tokyo. Harverson also currently has a selection of her prints and paintings at The Jane Newbury Gallery, London.

Harverson earned her BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design, completed a printmaking MA at Central, and has recently taken part in the Tom Croft campaign 'Portrait for Heroes.'
